Recently, Google announced its intention to delete user accounts that have been inactive for two years. Now, the IT giant has decided to ensure that all users are aware of this by sending notifications informing people about the company's policy on inactive accounts.
The messages that inform people about the inactive account policy are sent from no-reply@accounts.google.com. In these messages, Google provides a brief description of the new policy: "We've increased the account inactivity period to two years across all of our products and services. This change takes effect today and will apply to any Google account that has been inactive, meaning it has not been logged into or used for a two-year period. The inactive account and any content it contains will be subject to deletion beginning December 1, 2023," Google said in a statement.
Furthermore, Google explains in the letter that the new rule only applies to users who haven't logged into their accounts or used them to access other company services for more than two years. Although the new policy starts this week, the removal of inactive accounts won't begin until December of this year.
If Google deems a user's account inactive, they will receive several emails notifying them that the account will soon be deleted. According to reports, Google will reportedly start sending notifications to users eight months before the account is deleted directly. Once the account is deleted, the email address associated with it cannot be used to create a new account. To retain your Google account, you only need to log in at least once every two years.
