It has been reported that Twitter has implemented a program where authors of popular tweets can receive a share of the revenue generated from ads displayed in response to their posts. This program is available to Twitter Blue subscribers whose tweets have received over 5 million views per month for the past three months.
According to Twitter owner Elon Musk, a total of $5 million will be distributed in the first round of payments. The payments are cumulative starting from February, when Musk initially announced his plan to introduce this incentive for Twitter users. Payments are facilitated through the Stripe system.
Some popular Twitter users have shared their payment amounts, indicating that they can be quite significant. For instance, Brian Krassenstein, with nearly 750,000 followers, claimed to have received $24,305, while Benny Johnson, a political commentator with 1.7 million followers, said he received $9,546.
The exact criteria for determining the payment amount are currently unknown. Another Twitter user, Ashley St. Clair, with 710,000 followers, reported receiving $7,153. She estimated that her tweets received approximately 840 million views from February to July. Based on these figures, Twitter paid her around $0.0085 per thousand views or $8.52 per million views. It remains unclear if the payment amount varied among users or if there were other factors influencing the calculation.
