The smartphone company Nothing has introduced its second smartphone, the Nothing Phone (2). With this new device, Nothing aims to bring fun and excitement back to the world of electronics, as they believe the smartphone industry has become mundane.
The Phone (2) retains the unique feature of its predecessor, which is the Glyphs backlight on the transparent back of the smartphone. The backlight now has more LEDs (33 instead of 12) and can display volume and other parameters of the device, in addition to blinking for calls and notifications. The Phone (2) also offers more highlight animations and allows users to set different animations for notifications from various applications.
In terms of performance, the Phone (2) is based on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 platform, which makes it significantly more powerful than its predecessor. It comes with 8 or 12 GB of RAM and 128, 256, or 512 GB of internal storage. The software component has also been improved, as the smartphone runs on Nothing OS 2, offering more customization options.
The Phone (2) features a larger and brighter 6.7-inch LTPO-OLED display with a resolution of 2412 × 1080 pixels. The display has a typical brightness of 1000 cd/m2 and a peak brightness of up to 1600 cd/m2. It supports a dynamic refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120 Hz, and the touch layer operates at a frequency of 240 Hz. The phone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass on both the front and back.
The device is equipped with a 4700 mAh battery, supporting 33W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging. The camera system includes a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 main sensor with ƒ/1.88 aperture, a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera with a Samsung JN1 sensor, and a 32-megapixel front camera with an ƒ/2.45 aperture. The rear cameras can record 4K video at 60fps and 480fps slow motion.
The Nothing Phone (2) will mark Nothing's entry into the US smartphone market. The base version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage is priced at $599. Retail sales will begin on July 13, with online orders set for delivery on July 17. Pre-orders have already started.
